i had the same question last year. I discovered this page, which lets you compare hotels prices on different booking sites. Prices differ a lot for one hotel, depending where you book!

cooltronix: There are lots of hotels there. If you look for cheap and good try the Days Inn, they have 5 or 6 hotels in Beijing:

THere are plenty of other hotels too.

Beijing Plaza is also very good 4-star.
