in China

HK :

I and my wife (60 years, vegetarians) are visiting BEIJING on next Friday and Saturday. This is our first visit to China. We are staying at a hotel in an area called JIANGUOMEN NEI AVENUE.
We would like to see Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Great Wall and Ming Tombs.
My questions are:
1. What should be our itinery?
2. How to travel to these places from hotel? Bus or taxi or any other mode? Also approx costs and timings
3. What to see in the forbidden city as I am told that it is very large.
4. Are there any vegetarian or Indian restaurants near the hotel.
Shall be grateful for guidance from experienced travelers. Please keep in mind our age of 60 years.

Blah

Tianammen Square and the Forbidden City are in the city centre so that’s easy enough by metro or taxi.

The Great Wall is in the countryside, so you can try booking a local tour from an agency or the hotel. If you speak Chinese you could try to hire a taxi for a day for a few hundred RMB.

The Ming Tombs are also outside the city (50km).

Go to Tiananmen and the Forbidden City the second day. Go to the Great Wall the very first day. The Forbidden City is now so large that you can’t see it in a couple of hours. I am sorry that I can’t help you ont he restaurant of Ming Tombs situation because I am a big Beijing Duck fan myself and never did see the Ming Tombs the year I lived in Beijing.

I am 55 years old and have lived in China six years. I hope you get to got o a village (a real one!) during your stay in China -that is the best palce to go!)

There is so much to see here. Maybe, you can come back and teach here a couple of years and see more. :)
