How expensive would a vacation in Beijing be?

in China

FakaMeanBrah :

We’re thinking of taking a vacation to Beijing in May and was wondering how expensive it is there. It’ll be myself, my wife, and our two kids (ages 3 and 1). We’ve already looked into the cost of airline tickets. We also discovered that visas are expensive, like around $180/EA.

How much would a semi-decent hotel cost (maybe around 2 or 3 stars)? How much is food? How much for city tours? To the Great Wall? To the Forbidden City (not even sure if it’s in the area)? How much is public transportation? Taxis? How about souvenirs?

Any advice/info would be helpful.

Hotel: You can stay in Days Inn for about RMB400 per room. They have quite a high standard and their places are clean. They have about 10 location in Beijing.

Other option is one of the 40 or so Home Inn in Beijing, they are a little cheaper.

Food (outside expensive hotels) and transport, incl. Taxis are very cheap.

A 3 star hotel costs about USD60. Private tours cost relatively higher. For joining in a coach tour, that would be much cheaper. 20~30 dollars per person per day for Great Wall or Forbidden City. For details, you can check.

For a bus ride, 1 Chinese Yuan or a little more. Subway ticket costs RMB 2. Taxis could be very expensive since Beijing is very large.
