I am having trouble. The hotel I want to reserve in Beijing says “error” in the mobile phone section of their reservation webpage. Of course I don’t have a Chinese cell phone so it doesn’t accept my number therefore I can’t make a reservation. So I call the hotel’s hotline, it is a chain hotel, and everybody speaks English except those in the Reservation Department. So how can I ask the lady in the reservation department to connect me with an English speaker?

You could say: “You mei you yi ge shuo yin wen de ren?” pronounced: Yo may yo eee guh shwuoh een when duh ren

If they don’t, they may say, “Deng yixia.” Wait a moment. And they will probably find someone who does.
Call the hotline again, tell them your situation, ask them to look for an English speaking receptionist for you.
Or just change another one, there are lots of chain hotels, it is impossible no receptionist speaks English. At least, some hire college students as the receptionists, they must speak English.
