i will be traveling to one of these cities in may. i am from the US. i do not speak the language. which city would be the best place to go? i know that tokyo is very expensive but i think it would be really cool to go though. i heard that you can sleep in a love hotel. haha my cousin and i are going. and we figured we would only need about 5 hours of sleep a night. so we figured that would be cheap. or any suggestions on hostels? what about beijing? i kind of wanted to see the olympic setups. and i heard its dirt cheap there. can i get some suggestions on food/nightlife/drinks? for all those cities? any suggestions help. thanks. prices? we are goin for 6 nights. we are on a budget. so ballpark range US dollars for each city. thanks!

I am currently staying in Singapore and was wondering if it was worth me visting Beijing before the Olympics 2008 start to save a bit of money on the flight or hotel costs after the Olympics are over.
Has past Olympic events caused a permanent increase in flights or hotel prices? Or do I have nothing to be concerned about and just book my ticket for the end of the year?

I am having trouble. The hotel I want to reserve in Beijing says “error” in the mobile phone section of their reservation webpage. Of course I don’t have a Chinese cell phone so it doesn’t accept my number therefore I can’t make a reservation. So I call the hotel’s hotline, it is a chain hotel, and everybody speaks English except those in the Reservation Department. So how can I ask the lady in the reservation department to connect me with an English speaker?

We’re thinking of taking a vacation to Beijing in May and was wondering how expensive it is there. It’ll be myself, my wife, and our two kids (ages 3 and 1). We’ve already looked into the cost of airline tickets. We also discovered that visas are expensive, like around $180/EA.

How much would a semi-decent hotel cost (maybe around 2 or 3 stars)? How much is food? How much for city tours? To the Great Wall? To the Forbidden City (not even sure if it’s in the area)? How much is public transportation? Taxis? How about souvenirs?

Any advice/info would be helpful.

Wife and I are going to China (Beijing) for the very first time in early October. Since we don’t speak the language and definitely look like tourists, we want to have a general idea of how much things go for over there. For example what a good rate would be to pay for a decent hotel to spend the night at? or what a reasonable cab fare would be? as well as suggestions for sites to see and places to go?

How do Delta Skymiles transfer into hotel points? Like, what’s the exchange rate?

I am looking to use points in China (Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai) in August. Fancy hotel not needed. Thanks!

I and my wife (60 years, vegetarians) are visiting BEIJING on next Friday and Saturday. This is our first visit to China. We are staying at a hotel in an area called JIANGUOMEN NEI AVENUE.
We would like to see Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, Great Wall and Ming Tombs.
My questions are:
1. What should be our itinery?
2. How to travel to these places from hotel? Bus or taxi or any other mode? Also approx costs and timings
3. What to see in the forbidden city as I am told that it is very large.
4. Are there any vegetarian or Indian restaurants near the hotel.
Shall be grateful for guidance from experienced travelers. Please keep in mind our age of 60 years.

I plan on going to Beijing for a week during March 2009 (my spring break from college) to visit some friends who were here in America as exchange students. I’m wondering what a ball park figure would be for 6 or 7 days? I just want to know for spending money. This has nothing to do with the flight or hotel.

My main goal is to spend time with my friends but I also want to do some shopping for clothes and things like that. However, I don’t plan on going crazy blowing cash at every shopping center I see. Of course I’ll probably be eating out everyday (cheap food is fine with me, although I don’t mind a semi-expensive meal or two) and taking public transportation. Also, I want to visit some of the typical tourist places like the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, etc. I’m not sure about night clubs; maybe I’ll visit one or two but they aren’t really on my agenda.

So with all that being said, what is a general estimate for a week in Beijing? I’m thinking $1000? $1500? By the way, if knowing helps you to answer the question better, I’m a girl and the two friends I’ll be visiting are girls. Thanks!
