I’m going to bounce around from my girlfriend’s parent’s multiple apartments, to several different hotels, to some people’s couches.
I planned to bring a backpack, 3 shirts, and 2 pairs of pants with a pair of socks, and flip flops.
I was going to buy everything I needed over there, so I didn’t have to worry about luggage on the way.

Suitcase wise She’s giving the one she bought in the US to me, and I’m going to buy a big one because over here their like $50.

A) I don’t know what else to bring, since I can buy most anything. I don’t need a toothbrush or toiletries like that, maby deodorant but thats it.

B) Is there anything you guys needed that they didn’t have easily available in China?

C) Are the convience stores the same? As in they have random stuff and gum and chips? I deff need gum.

D) Also does anybody have any suggestions as to what I should do for the 60 days? I’m 18 and I don’t have a fortune to spend. I mainly planned on hanging out and seeing a few sites, but I am there for 60 days and that’s quite a long time to be doing nothing.

D) They have Gyms and stuff?

E) My GF Says they have like an “America Town” (Her words) do a lot of english speakers hang out there?

F) I only speak like 10 words of Chinese, Will I have a problem? I planned on flashcards for basic things while she is in school, and having a cell to call her or her friends.

G) Do I need a license to drive around a moped?

sorry about my stupid questions, she gets angry when I ask questions like “Do they have gyms”. I ask a lot of questions.

Also this is important. How is the General internet speed in China? Like the Hotels?

And again, What the heck should I do for 60 days?

I’m in Beijing with my family, and want to meet a friend from college at a local restaurant at Hou Hai. The ride is ten minutes in a cab from our hotel (the Kapok Hotel), and I’m 28 years old and speak very little Chinese. While I realize there is a slight chance of something going wrong and me ending up kidnapped, raped, and murdered by the mafia, I don’t think the fear should prevent me from going to see my friend. Unfortunately, my Mom is travelling with me, and is “forbidding” me from going out. I’m not even planning on drinking at all. I can’t believe I’m thinking about “sneaking out” of the hotel when I’m 28, but just to give open space to my Mom’s concerns, what are the odds that I’ll end up in the paper tomorrow?

Our high school band was suppose to be performing in the Beijing Olympic Opening ceremony.

My friend is in the band and they practice practice and practice, work so hard, and each student needs to pay $4500 for the 15days trip.

Which was suppose to include the ticket to enter the olympic, and 15days of 5star hotels in the orchestra village, and a tour to Shanghai

He called me today and told me that their performance at the opening is cancelled, they no longer get to perform at the opening ceremony, but they get to perform at the Great Wall and Tiananmen Square.

His originial goal was to be able to stand on the olympic opening stage and perform.
Now all the programs are cancelled, I feel that it is very unfair, because it sounds to me that the school lied to all the students and give them hope to perform at the opening, but when they are actually there is a different story.

Should he ask the school for a partial refund of that expensive fee $4,500

Do you guys think that it is unfair also? Because they spend so much time practicing and now they don’t get to perform at the opening.

Located in NO.4/No.5 Ring Road or ZHONGGUANCUN, live harmoniously with the landlord instead of an expensive and information openless hotel, totally experience the real Chinese and Beijing common people’s life rather than receive some truthless information about China, about Beijing. The price is
around 8000RMB per month, and 20-day is the minimum renting period that we can accept.
Gas/water/electricity all free; very clean, and less
than 10 minutes to the subway.

I made a hotel reservation through expedia.co.uk yesterday, and received an email from them – its full of advertisements, though the iternerary number / traveller’s name / name of hotel were included in the email but those important information were shown in very small fonts, and when i printed off this email and looked at it, its just chaos and very distracting because of those ads.

the hotel is in beijing, and whether the hotel reception would be able to speak/read english is still doubtful. so do u guys reckon that there is a possibility of me getting into some trouble because of all this? i.e. if this reservation is not yet in their database, ect ect?

I’m an American visiting Beijing and Hong Kong in a few weeks. Are there any Chinese laws that say I have to carry my passport with me at all times for identification? Or can I just leave it in my hotel? Is it safe to leave it in my hotel room? We are not staying in a western-style hotel. Thanks!

I just arrived at a hotel in Shanghai, China. A person at the reception told me we, all foreigners, are obliged to visit a local police in this Beijing Olympic game season. Has anybody experienced the same situation? Is it a cheating? This hotel is a four-stars hotel, named New Space Time International Hotel Shanghai.
